South Crossing is a dirty, small town, with a saloon that doubles as a coach stop. It's primary reason to exist is to care for the stagecoaches that come through. There's a small general store, a stable for the horses, a few farmers, and a lot of drifters looking for work. It has a name only because it is a coach stop. Gil visits it to recruit some men for the cattle drove he's bossing.
